Security lighting has become a known name amongst homeowners. It provides a feeling of security and of course safety. Another benefit to security lighting lending to safety is it is a good use of a tool to scare away criminals and burglars. Even if you have burglar bars, it’s a good feeling to see in the dark with the help of outdoor lights.

In most cases, when you think of security lighting, you envision lights positioned outside of your home in the normal places that are really dark at night. These common areas are front and back porches, patios, garaged areas, and by entry ways.

Halogen, a name you may be familiar with is a lighting fixture that houses bulbs containing a carbon filament. This causes it to have a glow when current flows through it, projecting a lot of light. They are also known as flood lights. Halogen lighting is designed to operate on standard house current.

Other durable, security lighting that are growing in popularity are sensors or motion lights. This light only activates, turning on when it senses motion. It a create energy conservative light. It is a good theft deterrent light. When you walk near it the light jumps on, which could actually scare someone away. There’s enough variety to fit your needs and address your safety concerns.

    I have my home security system controlling my outside lights using some simple X10 modules. When my garage door is opened, my system automatically turns the lights on.
